Description | Dutchess County this month plans to begin the roughly $2.4 million process of replacing a bridge on Bulls Head Road in Stanford. The construction will lead to occasional lane restrictions, according to the county Department of Public Works. Bridge S-37, located near the Depot Lane intersection, has experienced structural deficiencies over the years that have led to weight restrictions, according to a release from the department. Dutchess is set to realign Bulls Head Road and construct a new bridge adjacent to the current structure. This will allow "the road to remain open during construction with only occasional lane restrictions for certain operations such as moving equipment and materials," according to the release. Both lanes of the road and the new bridge are expected to be complete by November. The removal of the current bridge and the final site restoration is then expected to be complete by spring 2020. As crews direct traffic onto the newly renovated Bulls Head Road and newly constructed bridge in the late-summer or the fall, there will then be periods of one-way alternating traffic patterns, the county said. The project cost will partially be funded by a $1.68 million grant from the state's BridgeNY program, according to the county. The new bridge will be wider, to allow for the addition of shoulders as well as a guide rail to be installed along the road and the bridge. Bulls Head Road will also be widened and straightened to improve the safety of the approach to the bridge, according to the release. Anyone seeking more information on the bridge replacement project can call the Department of Public Works' Engineering Division at 845-486-2925. Per the owner, as of April 17, 2019, Lochner Construction is the designer and inspector and Winn Construction is the general contractor. Construction is anticipated to begin in April 2019. |
