Description

Colorado Mountain College, Spring Valley Campus is seeking a professional mountain bike trail builder to complete the following scope of work: 1. Construction of a beginner/ green descent trail- Proposed alignment for this trail is approximately 1 mile in length and will be situated between the existing climbing trail and the blue descent trail. This trail will provide the “easiest way down”, roughly paralleling the service road and existing climbing trail, with few obstacles. 2. Construction of an intermediate/blue descent trail - Proposed alignment for this trail is approximately .91 miles in length and will be situated between the beginner and advanced descents to provide an intuitive choice for riders at the top of the hill. This trail will introduce riders to the more challenging parts of mountain biking. Modest jumps, berms, and features will be built while more of the natural trail surface will be left remaining so riders can learn how to ride over embedded rocks and roots while staying on the trail. 3. Construction of an advanced/black descent trail- The proposed alignment for this expert level trail is approximately 1.04 miles in length, providing steeper grades and opportunities for higher speeds. Several large basalt deposits along the alignment provide ample opportunity for the expert rider to be challenged, but will require significant hand work to make rideable. This trail will require the construction of approximately 10 jumps/features of various shapes and sizes and numerous berms in an effort to showcase the modern mountain biking experience on offer at any given riding spot. 4. Construction of one connection trail between downhill and uphill trails. This trail segment is approximately 0.1 miles and will traverse across gentle grades providing loop opportunities on the upper portion of the property. 5. Re-construction of existing trail to optimize mountain biking experience. This portion of the project would prioritize different segments of existing trail which need development and/or reconstruction in order to create a viable teaching facility and a racecourse. The length and extent of this reconstruction will be determined based on the remainder of the available budget. Please specify an estimate of price-per-foot to rebuild existing trails. 6. Trails constructed for this project will be built utilizing mini-excavators and hand tools, and will average between 24-48 inches in width. Soil and vegetation will be cleared from the trail, exposing mineral soil underneath. Except where noted, tread will require a minimal 3% outslope to facilitate drainage, along with the wide dispersal of removed soil onto downhill side. Final preparation of trail will involve the smoothing and/or compaction of exposed mineral soil to a reasonable standard. Exposed roots and stone need not be removed. Further stone may be used to denote trail line and corral users onto correct trail line. Where necessary, constructed trail will be used in conjunction with full bench construction or other recognized trail construction techniques dependent on slope and ground conditions.
