Description

Built in 1909, it has continuously served as the seat of County government since its construction. Watson & Huckel of Philadelphia designed a three-story Classical Revival building with a symmetrical limestone facade, three bays flanking each side of a central portico with colossal columns in antis surmounted by a pediment. Above the pediment rises a limestone tower supporting the Baroque Revival cupola. Additions to the south of the original courthouse were constructed in 1954 and 1993. The Courthouse is listed on the New Jersey State and National Registers of Historic Places as it is a key structure within the Bridgeton Historic District. The project's scope of work entails a number of improvements to achieve preservation and includes exterior masonry restoration (exterior cleaning, soiling, biological growth, metallic stains, selective raking/repointing of limestone and granite, patching, whole unit replacements, sealants/specialties), metals (ornamental restoration at cupola balconies), rough carpentry (cupola repairs), exterior finish carpentry (exposed exterior elements, repair and replacement), roofing (metal copper cupola maintenance), exterior painting of cupola, and electrical work (lighting upgrades in cupola). All proposed work shall meet the requirements of the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (rev. 2017). This project has received grant funding from the New Jersey Historic Trust. A Bidder's Qualifications Statement is available as a PDF file by visiting https://www.cumberlandprocure.org.
