Description

This agreement is to remove and replace various turfgrass sod materials for the City on an “as needed” basis when requested. Specifications Sod/Turfgrass Removal: 1. Thickness of Cut: Turfgrass areas requiring sod removal shall be machine cut at a uniform soil thickness of 0.60 inch, plus or minus 0.25 inch, at the time of cutting. Measurement for thickness shall exclude top growth and thatch. 2. Area Preparation: Areas of removal shall have clean cut, squared edges and corners. Surface of area of removal will be level. Sand or mulch, as directed by the City representative, may be spread in the area of removal as needed to create an even plane, allowing sod to be installed to grade with surrounding areas. Specifications for Sod: 1. Sod shall be healthy living material complying with ASPA specifications for machine cut thickness, size, strength, moisture content and mowed height, free of weeds and undesirable native grasses. Provide sod of uniform density, color, texture, strongly rooted and capable of vigorous growth and development when planted. Thatch thickness shall not exceed ¼”. 2. Contractor shall provide certification of seed/stolon mixture for turfgrass sod. Include identification of source and name of supplier. 3. Contractor shall install sod within twenty-four (24) hours from time of harvesting. Protect sod from breaking and drying. Specifications for Sod Installation: 1. The Contractor shall install the type and quantity of turfgrass sod as specified by the City. 2. The Contractor shall lay sod to form a solid mass with tightly fitted joints. Contractor shall butt ends and sides of sod strips together, ensuring there is no overlap. Do not stretch sod. Stagger strips to offset joints in adjacent courses. Work from boards to avoid damage to subgrade or sod. Tamp or lightly roll to ensure contact with subgrade. Ensure sod is trimmed to expose sprinklers. 3. Contractor shall thoroughly water sod with a fine spray immediately after planting to saturate the sodden area to a depth sufficient that the underside of the new sod pad and soil immediately below the pad are thoroughly wet. 4. Final grade of sod installation will be even with the surrounding turfgrass areas, or within 0.25 inches below grade. Sod will not be installed above the grade of surrounding turfgrass areas. Specifications for Hydro Installation Soil Preparation: 1. Grading: All areas to be sowed with a hydro installation shall be prepared such that finish grade is level with all sprinklers, valve boxes, sidewalks, or any other hardscape features. 2. Stone Removal: All areas to be sowed with a hydro installation shall have all surface stones of ½” or larger removed. 3. The Contractor shall provide a quote for any site preparation work needed. As it is impossible to anticipate the scope of work for this type of preparation, each quote will be project specific, and will not have a general price per sq. ft. Specifications for Hydroseeding: 1. Grass seed shall be fresh, clean, dry, new-crop seed complying with AOSA’s “Rules for Testing Seeds” for purity and germination tolerances. 2. Contactor shall provide Certification of Grass Seed from vendor for each grass seed monostand mixture. Include the year of production and date of packaging. 3. Deliver packaged materials in original, unopened containers showing weight, certified analysis, name and address of manufacturer. 4. Mix specified seed, slow-release fertilizer, and fiber mulch in water, using equipment specifically designed for hydroseed application. Continue mixing until uniformly blended into homogenous slurry suitable for hydraulic application. 5. Mix slurry with nonasphaltic tackifier such that it will be applied at a rate of forty (40) pounds per acre. 6. Spray-apply slurry uniformly to all areas to be seeded in a one-step process. Apply slurry at a rate so that mulch component is deposited at not less than one-thousand two-hundred (1,200) pounds per acre dry weight, and seed component is deposited at a rate of not less than five (5) pounds per one-thousand (1,000) sq. ft for bermudagrass. Specifications for Hydrosprigging: 1. Contactor shall provide Certification of Sprig/Stolon from vendor for each grass sprig/stolon mixture. Include the year of production and date of packaging. 2. Turf sprigs shall be healthy living stems, rhizomes, or stolons of turfgrass sod with a minimum of two (2) nodes and attached roots free of soil. 3. Prior to hydrosprigging soil shall be flocculated to a six-inch (6”) depth before sprigs are installed. Hydrosprigging operations shall not take place if the wind velocity will prevent uniform distribution. 4. Mix specified sprigs, fertilizer, and fiber mulch in water, using equipment specifically designed for hydrosprig application. Continue mixing until uniformly blended into homogenous slurry suitable for hydraulic application. 5. Mix slurry with nonasphaltic fiber-mulch tackifier such that it will be applied at a rate of forty (40) pounds per acre. 6. Spray-apply slurry uniformly to all areas to be sprigged in a one-step process. Apply slurry at a rate so that mulch component is deposited at not less than one-thousand two-hundred (1,200) pounds per acre dry weight, and sprig component is deposited at not less than the specified sprig-sowing rate. 7. Broadcast sprigs uniformly over prepared surface at a rate of three-hundred (300) US bushels per acre. 8. Fertilizer shall be mixed at a rate of two-hundred (200) pounds per acre of a balanced starter fertilizer.
