Description

The services include preparation of construction contract plans for the Uptown Area Improvements Project in the City of Athens. The project length is approximately 1,660 feet. The project limits are West Washington Street, between Congress Street and College Street, and State Street, between Congress Street and College Street. The project will tie into the newer features on Court Street, which underwent a pedestrian improvements project in phases between 1995 and 2007. The project includes improving the safety of the area for bicycles and pedestrians by adding standard amenities, safety items, and completing pavement marking updates and signal improvements. This priority project includes installing lighting in the corridor, ensuring that crosswalk locations and areas with high pedestrian use are sufficiently lit, and adding amenities like bicycle parking racks and street furnishings for pedestrians. The project will also address accessibility issues, updating curb ramps with detectable warnings, and replacing uneven, non complaint sidewalks. Improved bicycle infrastructure includes signage, shared use lane markings, and reconfiguration of existing lane markings to include bike lanes, where possible. The project will also examine and construct the feasible signal and lane configuration recommendations included in the Active Transportation Plan.
