Description | One of Birmingham's largest architecture firms has been awarded a contract to design a new police station for a Birmingham suburb. The Alabaster City Council awarded Williams Blackstock Architects a design contract for a new police and court building, according to the Shelby County Reporter. The 30,000 to 35,000-square-foot building would house the Alabaster Police Department, Municipal Court and magistrate offices. Williams Blackstock will receive 6 percent of the total cost of the project, which is budgeted for between $10 million and $12 million. Alabama architecture firm Goodwyn Mills and Cawood is providing environmental consulting services and is conducting geotechnical and environmental studies on property near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Fulton Springs Road. Alabaster's current police station at U.S. 31 and Second Place Northwest has been in operation since the 1950s. |
