Description

The National Park Service (NPS), National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA), located in Washington, D.C. requires a contract for vacuum truck services to clean out the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Over time, algae and bacteria grow in the pool from different types of wildlife, human, and natural causes. The majority is bird droppings and leaves that get into the water and decay over time. There are also numerous coins that park visitors throw into the pool that need to be removed during the cleaning process. National Park Service employees will assist and direct the contractor while work is being performed inside the pool. NPS Employees will remove all of the trench drain grates and 60 plastic grate covers, allowing access to both the trench and supply lines for cleaning. It is expected from past cleanings that there will be water and sludge at the level of the trench grates that the pump house pumps cannot remove. This water and sludge material will need to be vacuumed out for removal.
