Description | Work to be performed shall include all labor, equipment, materials, traffic control, mobilization fees, milling and miscellaneous items necessary to furnish and install one or more courses of hot mix asphalt, chip and seal or crack sealer. This work consists of furnishing and placing a hot poured joint and crack sealant in properly prepared cracks in asphalt pavements. Cracks with a width greater than 1/8" and less than 1" are to be filled with this material. Immediately before applying hot poured joint and crack sealant, the cracks shall be cleaned of loose and foreign matter to a depth approximately twice the crack width. Cleaning shall be performed using a compressed air lance. Crack sealant will be flush with the pavement surface. Following the filling of the crack, excess sealant shall be leveled off at the wearing surface by squeegee, a shoe attached to the applicator wand, or other means. The contractor shall have blotter material available on the project in the event it is required to prevent tracking or pulling. This work consists of furnishing and applying bituminous material and aggregate cover coat, followed by a seal coat on an existing surface. Aggregates for cover material shall be crushed stone, crushed slag, crushed gravel, or natural gravel. Aggregates shall be composed of clean, tough, durable fragments free from an excess of flat, elongated, soft, or disintegrated pieces and free from fragments coated with dirt or other objectionable matter. Slag shall be reasonably uniform in density. Prior to spraying tack coat and beginning overlay work, the surface to be tack coated shall be swept to remove accumulations of loose gravel and debris. |
