Description

The Niki Stanley Slide AMLRP will result in the disturbance of up to 3.3 acres, and includes the complete excavation of a landslide threatening the turn-around and parking area at the head of the access drive for the Stanley residence, and the repair of a gabion ditch installed along the toe of the current landslide under a previous AML reclamation project (Boldman Slide AMLRP) that affected the site. Earthen material excavated from the landslide will be taken to fill areas along stable portions of a nearby abandoned mine bench. After the damaged portion of the gabion ditch is removed, a low-water crossing will be installed to allow the headwater of Hunts Branch to be crossed in order to access the lower portion of the slide. Plans are for an excavated rock ditch to carry drainage down the slope formerly occupied by the slide to a new gabion ditch spur, which will then carry it to the reconstructed gabion ditch. Earthen material excavated from the project site will be transported to a nearby permitted Title V underground mine site, where it will be stockpiled for future use in reclaiming that site. The entire project area has been subjected to disturbances such as landslide activity, residential construction, road construction coal mining, and previous reclamation projects. Forested habitat may need to be disturbed in order to allow access to the upper portions of the landslide area. Other than the installation and removal of a temporary low-water crossing in a constructed drainway composed of a gabion ditch, direct disturbance of streams will not occur. There will be no disturbance of any caves or cave-like habitats, specifically including underground mine openings or workings. The off-road access, landslide area, and fill areas will be revegetated by means of the standard AML Reclamation Seed Mixture. Hydromulching and hydroseeding may be utilized within the area of the excavated landslide. The standard AML Residential Seed Mixture will be utilized in any areas of residential lawn that are disturbed.
