Description

The Town of Mount Airy is soliciting bids from General Contractors, for the widening of Prospect Road near Main Street. This project will involve excavation, paving, putting in a retaining wall and new sidewalks. There will not be a pre-bid meeting for this project . However, the Contractor may contact the Town Engineer with any questions or to visit the premises. Bids from prospective bidders who have not obtained these documents from one of these places will not be accepted. Inquiries concerning the scope and bidding documents or other technical questions shall be directed to the Town Engineer at 301-829-1424 (if automated phone system, select engineering). The Town of Mount Airy hereby reserves the right, which is understood and agreed to by all Bidders, to reject any and all Bids and to waive any omissions, errors, mistakes, defects or irregularities in any Bid, and to accept the Bid which, in the judgment of the Owner, is to its best interest. a) The contractor shall remove the existing retaining wall, excavate and build new a retaining wall between the parking lot and new sidewalk. The Contractor's engineer shall provide shop drawings for the proposed retaining wall and obtain Carroll County building permits for the retaining wall. (b) For all excavations the Contractor shall properly backfill, finely grade, and seed and mulch as needed. (c) The Contractor shall replace all curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the North edge of Prospect Road adjacent to the parking lot indicated on the Layout Plan. See details R-12 and R-13 for specifications. New sidewalk shall be 5 foot in width and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant with Maryland SHA standard MD 655.12 ramps. (d) All backfill within the roadway shall be graded aggregate base (GAB) and pavement patches shall adhere to Town Standard Details R-15. Final milling and resurfacing for the new north curb to recently paved southernmost lane. The Contractor shall be responsible to field survey and replace any/all pavement markings that are disturbed as a result of construction. (e) The Contractor shall complete all work as defined in the attached drawings and specifications found in this Scope of Work. The drawings are as follows: (i) Title Sheet (ii) Layout & Utility Plan (iii) Prospect Road Improvement Plan (iv) Site Details (f) The Contractor shall patch the existing parking lot on the north side of Prospect Road and provide a 2-inch surface coat of hot mix asphalt. Surface coat will be the same unit price as for the road and a sperate line item will be provided for patching as necessary prior to surface coat. (g) The Contractor is responsible for providing concrete, soil, and compaction testing. A certified technician must be on site at all times during installation of these items. (h) All manhole, water valve, and other utility frames and covers to be installed an half-inch below finished grade in all paved areas.
