Description

Contractor will provide all labor, equipment, materials, incidentals and traffic control necessary to produce, haul, place, tack and compact approximately 10,063 tons of ½” Commercial Plant Mix Grade S PG 64-28 asphalt mix material. A leveling course in areas to be determined of up to 250 tons per center lane mile shall be placed and compacted at project managers discretion prior to placing a .15’ thick and approximately 41-54’ wide overlay. Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, traffic control and incidentals necessary to produce, haul, place, roll and broom approximately 111,213 square yards of laid-in-place chip seal. The chip seal will be approximately 4 miles long and 40-53 feet wide. Contractor shall provide CHFRS-2P asphalt emulsion and Type 1 chips. Traffic control with pilot cars must be maintained until dusk or fading light each workday as determined by the Project Manager. The emulsion application rate for chip seals is estimated at .45 gallons per square yard. The cover material application rate is estimated at 25 pounds per square yard. Actual application rates will be based on the chip design and the actual field adjustments. If the cover material application rate of 25 pounds per square yard is not sufficient to provide a quality job, the Project Managers will jointly determine what the new application rate should be. Contractor must furnish a water truck for dust control and wetting of chips. Arrangements must be made by the Contractor for acquiring water for wetting and sweeping. It will be the responsibility of the Contractor to determine the centerline and place reflective tabs prior to the chip seal. The Department will provide final striping. Contractor is responsible for test trailer, transport, and setup if required. If the Department decides to perform testing at an area lab, this bid item will be deleted from the contract. The quantity is estimated and will be changed accordingly depending on pickup and delivery locations and miles transported. A fog seal will be applied at the rate of 0.15 gallons per square yard of 50/50 cut asphalt emulsion CSS-1H. The Department will provide interim and final striping.
