Description | The ORD/NERL/SHEMF Office has a number of radioactive waste items currently in storage (see below listings). These sources need to be disposed through a Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or Agreement State Program licensed waste disposal facility. The EPA ProjectOfficer for this service, should be contacted to schedule the exact date of pick-up. The contractor (and all subcontractors) shall maintain all training and credentials to manage radioactive material. The contractor shall provide all materials and labor necessary to package, mark, label, containerize, transport and dispose/process radioactive waste from the US EPA main facility located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Applicable U.S. Department of Transportation regulations at 49 CFR must be followed regarding the survey of all waste containers for radiation and contamination prior to transport from the EPA-RTP site. Waste disposal service shall include the completion of any and all Federal and/or State required shipment/transport notifications and manifest documents. The radioactive waste items may be treated, processed, and otherwise prepared for ultimate disposal using any permanent disposal method. A number of the radioactive waste items are mixed waste items and as such, the contractor must follow the applicable regulations for the transport and disposal of hazardous waste per 40 CFR 260-261 and 49 CFR Subchapter C –Hazardous Materials Regulations. A listing of radioactive waste items proposed for ultimate disposal is attached to this document. The total activity in microcuries for each waste item is also listed in this attachment. | ||
