J041--Repairs need to HVAC System(578)

The contractor shall provide all labor, management, materials, parts, and equipment to repair critical cooling systems at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. The critical cooling systems shall be repaired with urgent priority: 1. The chiller for Bldg.1 B404 had a compressor fail with the controls. This unit is critical to the operation of the Veterinary Medical Unit (VMU) and needs to be replaced in FY21. Due to the age of the unit and prior repairs exceeding 90k, putting additional fund into the unit will not ensure reliability. This unit is beyond economical repair and needs to be replaced. 2. The steam heating coils associated with the Bldg.1 B404 Air Handling Unit (AHU) have been repaired numerous times, each time reducing capacity of the coils. They have since shown even more leaks that cannot be repaired. Replacement of these steam coils is paramount to maintaining proper temperature and humidity control in the VMU. 3. The uninvent heaters in Bldg. 9 were removed to replace the flooring in December 2020. During removal it was found the controls do not operate and parts are unavailable for re-installation of these heaters. Replacement of these uninvent heaters are required to prevent freezing of the piping in the building.
