Description | The Town of La Plata is in the process of refurbishing its Fire House Museum. This project is part of the Towns broader effort toward Keeping La Plata Beautiful and creating destinations in a walkable downtown. We look forward to bringing this building back to life and honoring the history of firefighting in our Town and in Charles County. The building rejuvenation design has been approved by our Historic Preservation Commission, Town Council and the Design Review Board, so were ready and excited to move forward. We are looking for a contractor to perform necessary façade repairs and complete exterior paint job. The attachment depicts our approved paint color scheme. It also includes exterior photos, representing the buildings current state and the vision of what the exterior is to look like after renovations and painting. Youll notice, in reviewing the photos, that there are quite a few façade repairs needed, prior to painting, i.e. chipping, peeling, trim work, etc. The following is a list of façade surface elements and items that need to be addressed: Surfaces Cinder block Concrete block Aluminum (gutters and trim) Metal (side door) Vinyl (trim) Wood (front doors & rear façade of building) Metal west side entrance door- prep, prime metal surface, paint with oil base paint Renovation / Façade Preparation / Painting Requirements 1. Remove exterior light fixtures reattach after completion of painting 2. Remove signs, reattach signs after completion of painting 3. Bronze plaques - Cover/wrap in place. (Do not remove) 4. Prepare façade as appropriate (power wash, scrape, etc.) 5. Remove all blistering paint on exterior Concrete and Cinder block 6. Prime all Concrete and Cinder block with (Masonry Primer) 7. Apply paint to exterior façade block surface in two or more coats (see Specs for paint brand & color) 8. Cap trim boards around doors with Aluminum 9. Prime, doors, gutters, and trim for painting as needed 10. Caulk and paint façade, doors, gutters, and trim in accordance with DRB-approved color palette 11. Leftover paint to remain at Firehouse Museum for touch-up work 12. Rear wooden frame door, repair or replace deteriorating door jam at base We plan to present final recommendations Mayor and Council by January, bid awarded by February and work to commence in March, when the cold weather begins to transition.
