Description

The Covington West and Imperial Woods Improvement is a project intended to increase stormwater conveyance and decrease ponding extend, depth and duration within the Covington West and Imperial Woods neighborhoods. This project is possible now that two previous projects in the Covington Woods neighborhood were completed in order to avoid adverse impact to Covington Woods Ditch. The project consists of approximately 2600 LF of storm sewer improvements with pavement replacement along the installation corridor. The proposed storm sewer would interconnect the existing Covington West storm sewer system to that of the proposed imperial Woods storm sewer system. Currently, overland flow during the extreme event leaves the Covington West area and flows south along Arcadia Drive to Greenway Drive where it continues to flow south into Imperial Woods via Mason Road. Proposed storm sewer will follow the same alignment as that of the overland flow. Proposed improvements will start at the intersection of Michele Drive at Arcadia Drive, flow south to Greenway Drive and Direct flow west along Greenway Drive until Mason Road. At Mason road the storm sewer will follow south to Oakwood Lane and follow the path of the existing storm sewer system to Covington Woods Ditch. Additionally, to provide the most amount of benefits to the area and additional 13 acre-feet of storage should be provided with in the area. This volume could be provided open land area or a combination of open land with sub surface storage. Without this additional storage the storm sewer improvements within the area are still functional and provide benefit, but the benefit is maximized with detention. This additional storage volume provides additional benefit during the peak of the storm events when Covington Woods Ditch levels are elevated. Additional construction items included as part of this project are: pavement replacement, inlet replacement, and storm sewer outfall/headwall structures replacement.
