Description | The University of Wisconsin–Madison recently celebrated the official groundbreaking of a new building for the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS). It's expected to be completed in 2025. The seven-story building at 1240 W. Johnson St. will span 350,000 square feet and will house the university's newest school. CDIS was founded in 2019 and includes UW-Madison's largest major (computer science), its fastest-growing major (data science) and its newest major (information science). Scroll through the slideshow above to see architectural renderings of the building. “The CDIS building will be a beacon of innovation and collaboration, CDIS founding director Tom Erickson said at the groundbreaking ceremony on April 25. "As a state, creating a pipeline of students with programs like this will be critical to growing a future workforce and cultivating visionaries that will build the future that we all want for our state and the world.” CDIS is already forming partnerships with leading industry and area employers to ensure that students have access to career opportunities, Erickson said. The $260 million building project is being privately funded. Financing includes $50 million from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and a $125 million donation from Wauwatosa natives and UW-Madison alumni Tashia and John Morgridge. John Morgridge was formerly the CEO and chairman of Cisco Systems. The new building will also house the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics & Medical Informatics, the American Family Insurance Data Science Institute, the N+1 Institute and the Center for High Throughput Computing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- As of April 21, 2023, construction is underway and expected to be completed in 2025, however, an exact timeline for construction has not been confirmed.
