Description

The building is a designated historical structure, and therefore all work shall comply with the Secretary of the Interior Standards. Additional structural repairs in further phases will be required. This scope of work is limited to critical stabilization activities only and consists of, but is not limited to: 1. Shore the shifted adjacent framing, excavate and replace the sills. Then remove and the broken structural components and salvage loose materials where possible for future re-installation. 2. Rehabilitate a column, including splicing the base with a Dutchman repair and bearing the column on a concrete plinth. Once the column is reset, then re-support the beams, rafters, and knee braces adjacent to the column. 3. Replace the second floor beam in kind, as it is rotting. 4. Install new horizontal members at regular intervals and plumb the racking of the bays along the east elevation of the west wing, to stabilize the columns and prevent further racking of the structure. 5. Repair a column post, replace a sill, and add a corbel to improve the bearing condition, as the base of the stacked column is inadequately supported. 6. Temporarily dismantle the rafters in the center wing and salvage for re-installation where possible. Document each element with photographs and labels during disassembly, and organize by kind. 7. Dig out, remove wood, and hand backfill a water-filled vertical opening with off-site material to safeguard the hazard.
