Description | Taxiway B is the primary parallel taxiway to the primary runway, Runway 5-23, which serves the southern quadrant of the airfield, including the fuel farm. Taxiway B is Taxiway Design Group Two (TDG 2). It is approximately 5,000’ long and 35’ wide, with no paved shoulders. The project includes a mill and overlay to the existing pavement, fillet widening at all of the taxiway to taxiway and runway to taxiway intersections, new LED airfield lighting and signage, and removal of adjacent Taxiway A and Apron pavement in order to comply with FAA AC 150/5300-13A, Change 1, Chapter 4: Taxiway and Taxilane Design. It is anticipated that 20% of the costs will be electrical and 80% of the costs will be pavements/civil. The airport is located at 2073 U.S. Highway 92 West, Winter Haven, FL. 33881. Taxiway B consists of 8 sections constructed of Asphalt Concrete (AC) and Asphalt Overlaid with Asphalt (AAC). The last construction years range from 1985 to 2010 (Small portions). The average area-weighted Pavement Condition Index (PCI) for Taxiway B was 53 in the 2017 Statewide Report, representing a Poor condition rating. The pavement distresses observed were related to Climate and other distress classifications. Distresses observed in Taxiway B consist of bleeding, block cracking, longitudinal & traverse cracking, patching, raveling, and weathering. The existing edge lights are all quartz; significantly more energy efficient LED edge lighting is proposed for this project. Also, the existing taxiway edge lighting circuit is currently direct-buried, frequently needing repair to remain operational. |
