Construction of Empire State Trail

This project will create segments of a bike/pedestrian trail along the existing Erie Canal pathway as a part of the Empire State Trail. These segments will be joined with existing and proposed trails to fill gaps and create a trail network that will provide a continuous route for pedestrians across Upstate New York. This effort is part of the New York State Empire Trail (EST) plan. The project will start in the Town of Lyons at the Bridge carrying Route 31 over the Erie Canal. The project will then resume at the intersection of an existing Wayne County Trail and Old Route 31 on Old Route 31. The trail will progress along an off-road alignment that parallels Old Route 31 until it ends at the intersection of Old Route 31 and Route 31. The project will restart on the East side of Clyde along an off-road trail that starts at the Galen Railroad Bridge. The trail will progress Eastward along the trail until it terminates at Brown Road. Theproject will then restart at the intersection of Route 31 and the existing Westshore Trail. The project will progress along Westshore Trail until the intersection of Westshore Trail and Van Dyne Spoor Road. The Trail will follow along Van Dyne Spoor Road until its terminus at the Canals Corporation Dike. The trail will then follow the Canals Corporation Dike until its terminus at the intersection of Route 31. Town of Galen, Tyre and Savannah, Wayne and Seneca Counties. .
