Description | The objective of this project is to conduct an end-of-life replacement of three air handling units and their associated hot water booster coils in UICs Student Center East located at 750 S Halsted. This equipment provides ventilation and thermal comfort to approximately 50,000 square feet of the student center facility, namely the east side dining facility, retail bookstore, and retail dining areas on the first and basement levels. Each air handling unit will be replaced with a comparable modular built-up unit in a manner that will allow the existing equipment to continue to operate until a planned cut-over. Existing open spaces adjacent to the current unit locations will be utilized for project phasing in order to minimize facility impacts. It should be assumed that some degree of afterhours work will be required in order to accommodate cutovers for AHUs, booster coils, and electrical infrastructure to minimize disruptions to the building. This project also includes a significant amount of ductwork revisions in the main kitchen and support spaces. This work is required to rezone the kitchen exhaust and make-up air systems, and integrate a previously replaced system of kitchen exhaust fans. Enhanced coordination will be expected for work within the kitchen spaces and the Owner may direct periods of time (namely seasonal, but also time-of-day) that work may take place within these spaces. The construction team will be expected to compress schedule for these tasks in order to return the kitchen to full use when requested. |
