Description

This is a fourth-row with logger select of approximately 577 acres of 21 to 27-year-old planted slash pine on John M. Bethea State Forest (SFI Certified Forest #NSF-SFI-FM-C0245755) in Baker County, Florida. Timber to be removed from the thinning area includes every fourth row and select trees in remaining rows to reach a target basal area of 70 square feet per acre. Timber to be removed in select rows will be harvested based on the following criteria: diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees shall be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area with minimal crown damage and should not be excessively skinned. The target basal area per acre and/or number of trees per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-In-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. Sale boundaries include: marked property boundaries, roads, firelines, or wetlands. Decks and skid trails are designated with blue paint on all blocks to be thinned. Property boundary trees are marked with white bands or property signs and are not to be harvested or damaged. Sale includes a historic site within a stand and harvesting will be excluded from this area. The historic area is excluded from the stand in the maps and will be delineated with flagging tape by forester in charge at the time of harvest. Estimated volumes to be removed are 12,432 tons of pulpwood and 3,518 tons of chip-and-saw or better. This sale contract will span twelve (12) months
