Security Measures at North Drive and 9th Street Sidewalk Improvements Projects

Security Measures at North Drive – Installation of New Vehicle and Pedestrian Gates at the E. Ninth Street entrance, New Retractable Bollards in the drive aisle of North Drive, Existing Manned Guard House adjacent to the Washington Monument will be replaced with New Guard House closer to the vehicle street entrance, New Paving and Landscape Materials Installed to this project. 9th Street Sidewalk Improvements - The 9th Street Sidewalk Improvements consist of updating the sidewalk along the 9th Street boundary of Capitol Square to the standard herringbone brick paver pattern with granite curbs as outlined in the Capitol Square Landscape Master Plan. This update includes the removal of 6 existing bio-retention planters and the removal of thirteen existing street trees within the sidewalk right-of-way. The project limits are the eastern side of N. 9th street between the Virginia General Assembly building and Bank Street.
