Description | The plans and specifications are now on file in the office of the city clerk. Copies thereof may be obtained at the office of the City Clerk. One set of bidding documents for the above project is available without charge to prospective bidders, subcontractor bidders, suppliers, and contractor plan room services. A fee may apply to additional sets and to bidding documents requested by other than prospective bidders, subcontractor bidders, suppliers, and contractor plan room services as defined herein. The City of Ames Purchasing Division is the only authorized source of bidding documents and bid forms. Bidding documents and bid forms obtained from any other source may have an incomplete set of documents. Bidders using bidding documents and/or bid forms not obtained from the City of Ames Purchasing Division are advised to contact the City of Ames Purchasing Division to provide a contact name, mailing address and phone number to enable receipt of necessary addenda. Reproduction of these documents without the express permission of the City of Ames is prohibited. The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: Demolition, removal, and disposal of existing insulation and lagging from the Unit 8 ESP and ESP inlet and outlet ductwork; cleaning and preparation of ductwork and ESP surfaces to receive new insulation and lagging; design, procurement and installation of in-kind replacement of insulation and lagging of the Unit 8 ESP inlet and outlet ductwork; and design, procurement and installation of in-kind replacement of the insulation and lagging of the Unit 8 ESP. All bids shall be submitted to said city clerk on or before the time set herein for the bid opening. Bids shall be made on the Bid Form furnished by the City of Ames, in a sealed and plainly marked envelope indicating it is a bid in response to this notice. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. Said bid security shall be based on an amount equal to at least 5% of the bid amount. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, and protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of one (1) year from and after the completion and acceptance by the City. The City's electric utility is considered a private entity for sales tax purposes. This project is considered to be new construction, re-construction, alteration, expansion, or remodel per Iowa Code. Contractor shall pay sales, consumer, use, and similar State and local taxes for the Work or portions provided by Contractor which are legally enacted when bids are received. The Contractor is responsible to pay sales tax on the materials and equipment that become a part of the real property and be included in the bid price. No sales tax exemption certificates will be issued for this project. As required by Iowa Administrative Code 875, Chapter 156, the bidder shall complete and submit the Bidder Status Form with its bid and certify its state or country of domicile by completing the address section of the Bid Form. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provision grown and coal produced within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa labor, to the extent lawfully required under Iowa statutes. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City.
