Description | https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2023/03/22/dc-2024-budget-plan.html Mar 22, 2023 There are also additional funds to complete infrastructure work at McMillan _____________________________ Plans call for the redevelopment of the former sand filtration plant (reservoir) 25-acre historic property. The project could include 1 million square feet of healthcare, 125,000 square feet of retail space as well as 655 residential units. The project is slated to be located between North Capitol and First Streets and Michigan Ave and Bryant Street NW. As of August 24, 2022, a federal lawsuit was filed. They allege D.C. would violate federal historic preservation law by moving ahead with the redevelopment, asking the U.S. District Court for D.C. to issue an injunction blocking the project. The case has yet to be scheduled for a hearing, and the District has yet to reply to the complaint. As for the latest D.C. Court of Appeals case challenging McMillan, a judge has ordered the parties to mediation, so it’s unclear when that dispute may be resolved. Recently, the court has cleared the project to begin demolition and preliminary work. Demolition work has started. An architect has been selected. Information regarding how and when a general contractor will be selected, along with a construction timeline has not been confirmed. The developers request no email or phone inquiries. The buildings are set to sit above about 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and a small public plaza. The developer has also suggested it could add a second, 173,000 square foot healthcare facility nearby with ground-floor retail, though that would be in subsequent phases of development. The HPRB has not yet set a timeline to review these new plans. Other parts of the project include 531 apartments, 146 townhomes and a 52,000-square-foot Harris Teeter grocery store. |
