Description | The new LDT is being designed as a replacement for the existing Swing Landing Trainer (SLT), building 610, located adjacent to building 636. The existing SLT was built around 1970 and has been used as the single parachute landing training facility since that time. The SLT is beyond its useful life and showing degradation and rust to steel components which are crucial to the functionality of the facility. Newer standards and safety requirements in the Air Force have led to the creation of the LDTs. These trainers reduce the overall recorded injuries to pilot trainees due to their lower fall heights and simplicity in design compared to SLTs. Based on these factors, the SLT must be demolished after the new LDT is constructed. |
