Description

To replace the existing water system under the board walk along the docks on Prentiss Street. The existing water system froze apart several years ago and was replaced with PEX tubing ran along the headwall of the pier. Due to the current high-water situation, this temporary water system in currently underwater at times and can no longer be considered potable. It is the intent of the project to replace the older system under the boardwalk with a new water supply line. The current water supply line is 2-inch diameter plastic. The proposed water supply line should match that diameter. Contractor may propose utilizing any materials allowed for potable water supply to replace this line including, but not limited to water grade PEX, PVC, HDPE, and Copper so long as it will withstand the outdoor conditions and winterization. There are 18 existing utility pedestals which will need to be reconnected to the water system as part of the project. You will need to plan on removing the existing boardwalk planks to access the pedestals. It will also allow you access for installing the new supply line. An alternate price is also requested to replace the existing utility pedestals. This shall include the reconnecting the electrical services to the new pedestals. There is an existing cabinet with a back flow preventor on site. This was originally utilized as part of the irrigation system. Currently the irrigation system is not utilized. Contractor shall expose, disconnect and cap the existing irrigation system, relocate the existing cabinet to the location indicated on the plans, and test the existing back flow preventer. If the back flow preventor is operational, it shall be used for the new potable water system. However, if it is not operational, please provide a price to replace the back flow preventer as an addition to the base price supplied. Connection to the existing water system shall be after the existing blow off port in the asphalt. A new winterization system shall be included in the cabinet with the back flow preventer. A similar setup is already used on site. See the attached photo. The location of the water connection will require the removal of the concrete slab and a section of asphalt. The City will arrange for the surfaces to be replaced at the conclusion of the work. Historical plans have been included which may assist with understanding the existing conditions.
