Performance of Perlite Removal at CAU 572 (Test Cell C)

As a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Navarro Research & Engineering requires the services of a qualified Subcontractor to mobilize, plan, perform removal, waste packaging and disposition of perlite material from the annulus space between the inner and outer metal shells of Dewars 1, 2, 4, and 5 at the Corrective Action Unit (CAU) 572, Test Cell C (TCC) Facility. CAU 572 Test Cell C (TCC) located in Area 25 of the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) approximately 90 miles from Las Vegas, Nevada. In preparation of facility demolition, the projects mission is to remove, package and transport to an onsite NNSS disposal facility the perlite located in the annulus of the Dewars. Dewars 1 and 2 have a capacity of 500,000 gallons, Dewars 4 and 5 each have a capacity of 55,000 gallons. All Dewars were used to store liquid hydrogen during TCC historical operations. Current estimated in-place volume of the perlite is anticipated as ~73,000 cubic feet (CF).
