Description | Project generally includes, but is not limited to, the stream restoration and floodplain reconnection of a portion of Conewago Creek and Brills Run. Phase 1 of the stream restoration includes restoring the entirety of Brills run within the project site by lengthening the stream channel through sinuosity improvement grading, improving the water quality with plantings, and reconnecting the floodplain to its historic footprint by removing legacy sediment. Additionally, Phase 1 improves the northern portion of Conewago Creek by removing legacy sediment to create tree islands at the upstream most portion of the site to act as a catchment area for sediment coming from upstream and reconnect a portion of the floodplain. Finally, Phase 1 proposes a bioswale that enters Conewago Creek to manage urban drainage from Hoffer Road. The alternate bid will be for the full build out of the permitted site plan for the Project, which will be the addition of Phase 2 and Phase 3 to Phase 1 of the Conewago Creek Floodplain Restoration. Work for Phase 2 extends from Phase 1 limits to the existing concrete farm bridge and includes, but is not limited to, the construction of a secondary stream channels with installation of woody debris, log sills, and habitat depressions, as well as grading to remove legacy sediment and reconnect the floodplain to its historic conditions. Work for Phase 3 extends from the existing concrete farm bridge (Phase 2 limit) to the limit of disturbance downstream of Conewago Creek just north of Rt 230 and includes, but is not limited to, improvement of the northern portion of Conewago Creek, a secondary stream channel, a bioswale that enters the Conewago Creek floodplain to manage urban drainage from Hoffer Road, the installation of woody debris, log sills, habitat depressions, and a tree island, as well as grading to remove legacy sediment and reconnect the floodplain to its historic conditions. |
