Resumption of the Patrick Henry Pre-K 8/Recreation Center - Phase III

BACKGROUND Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) serves more than 15,000 students who are from more than 114 countries and speak 119 languages. ACPS has 18 schools, including two middle schools, two K 8 schools, one pre-K school and one High School. In addition, there are 3 other facilities which support our school division. ACPS is committed to ensuring that each and every student succeeds. Five of our structures reach or exceed 75 years of age within the next five years. Over the next 20 years, an additional seven will reach 75-plus years and one will be 111 years old. Other ACPS support facilities include: A transportation facility, maintenance warehouse, boathouse, Chance for Change School and the central administration building. ACPS has recognized the need for the completion of the Patrick Henry Pre-K-8/Rec Center - Phase III including the demolition of interim Douglas MacArthur Elementary School in order to allow completion of the originally scheduled site improvements of Patrick Henry Elementary School K-8 and Recreation Center. SECTION 1. PURPOSE ACPS is soliciting proposals from General Contractors for the Resumption of Patrick Henry PreK 8/Rec Center - Phase III Including the phased abatement of HazMat demolition of the interim Douglas MacArthur Elementary School site improvements located at 4633 Taney Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304 via this Invitation to Bid ("ITB", also interchangeably referred to as "Solicitation"). SECTION 2.
