Bridge and Culvert Replacements

Project 2021-31 will replace bridge 0964-1000, and Project 2019-56 will replace culvert 0990-1000. Both projects are located in the 900 block of E 1000 Road. Public Works combined the two projects under one bid solicitation, intended to be awarded to a single contractor. Bids were opened on June 7, 2022. One bid was received as follows: Bidder Bid Estimate Engineers Estimate $2,554,111.07 Bryan Ohlmeier Construction Co Inc $2,937,858.85 15% Pursuant to Kansas Statute 68-521, a contract cannot be awarded for an amount exceeding 110% of the engineers estimate. Public Works recommends rejecting the bid at this time. The construction industry has been impacted by fuel prices, commodity prices, supply chain problems, and labor shortages. Public Works will monitor these conditions and return with recommendations for future bids. Bridge 0964-1000 and culvert 0990-1000 are both high priorities in the countys Capital Improvement Plan. ________________________________________________________________________________ Douglas County consists of Clearing & Grubbing, Removal of Existing 3-span Structure, Excavation, Piling, Reinforcing Steel, Concrete, Rip Rap, Temporary Erosion Control, Aggregate Base Rock, HMA-Commercial Grade Asphalt, Guardrail, Temporary & Permanent Seeding, and Traffic Control. Douglas County consists of Clearing & Grubbing, Removal of Existing Structure, Excavation, Reinforcing Steel, Concrete, Rip Rap, Temporary Erosion Control, Aggregate Base Rock, HMA-Commercial Grade Asphalt, Guardrail, Soldier Pile Retaining Wall, Temporary & Permanent Seeding, and Traffic Control. are located on E1000 Road between N900 and N1000 Roads or approximately 6 miles Southwest of Lawrence, KS.
