Description

1. School History: The Pittsfield School District, located in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, operates two public schools, including Pittsfield Elementary School (PES) and Pittsfield Middle High School (PMHS). PMHS serves approximately 300 students in grades 6-12. The school building was built in 1943 and an addition was added in 2000. 2. Project Description: The attic space over the older sections of PMHS currently have loose blown cellulose in between ceiling joints; much of it is degraded and not equally dispersed. Some areas have cellulose approximately 6 inches high, while other areas have as low as an inch. There is also some hot water piping to be insulated. The school district seeks to bring the insulation up to the recommended Department of Energy (DOE) standards and mitigate thermal losses. 3. Project Requirements / Objectives: The DOE recommends R-49 - R-60 attic insulation for Pittsfield's climate zone, requiring 14 inches of loose blown cellulose. Ceiling joints will also need to be covered with a continuous layer of insulation.
