Description | Professional Design Services for the renovation of approximately 17,000 sf of the Polsky Building at the street level along Main Street into an interdisciplinary art center that would be open to, and exist in dialogue with, downtown Akron and the Akron Civic Commons. The planned interdisciplinary art center will activate main street with a large event space that would be used for dance shows “in the round”, a small stage that could be subdivided and used for literature readings and impromptu recitals. The “event” space would be set up as a “learning commons” off an adjacent retail café when not used for larger preprogrammed events. The center will include a large gallery for the Myers School of Art and a “Made at Myers” shop where the art students could sell their work. New administrative and support space will house the university’s Arts Administration program, where they will be integral in the programming and administration of the Center. |
