Superstructure Replacement Beaver Street over Beaver Brook Bridge

Failure to complete the work by the dates herein specified, or any proper extensions thereof granted by the OWNER will be subject to liquidated damages in the amount of $500 per day. The work under this Contract consists of the superstructure replacement of the Beaver Street Bridge over Beaver Brook. The existing bridge has noted deficiencies such as moderate to severe rust and section loss of the girders, and severe rust of the purlins. The proposed work will correct all the noted deficiencies. The plans call for a superstructure replacement including new stringers, floor beams, steel truss, steel grid deck, bridge rail, and sidewalk on the bridge with ornamental handrail. Also, a secondary utility and pedestrian bridge will be constructed adjacent to the existing bridge. Micro-piles will be installed in the existing bridge footings for increased load as well. At the approaches new guardrail, repaving, wheelchair ramps, and cross walks will be constructed. This work includes bridge construction, installation of stringers and floor beams, steel truss, steel grid deck, HMA full depth pavement construction, granite curb, concrete approach sidewalks, roadway approaches, temporary traffic control (road closure and detour signage), ornamental handrail, adjusting utility structures, and other incidental work. All work shall take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. For the purpose of governing the work to be done under this contract, the OWNER has adopted as its Standard Specifications format the "2022 MassDOT Highway Division Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges; the Standard Special Provisions contained in this book; the 2017 MassDOT Highway Division Construction Standard Details; the latest edition of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD)" with revisions; the 1990 Standard Drawings for Signs and Supports; the 1968 Standard Drawings for Traffic Signals and Highway Lighting; the latest edition of American Standards for Nursery Stock, City of Lowell Standards, the Plans, and these Special Provisions.
