U-M Health Brighton Center for Specialty Care Linear Accelerator Expansion

As of December 9, 2022, the project has been awarded and construction is underway. A contract award amount and a timeline for completion have not been confirmed. The project consists of a building addition to house a new linear accelerator. The approximate locations of the planned development features are shown on the Boring Location Diagram. The building addition will be a single-story, slab-on-grade structure with a footprint area of about 2,200 square feet and an anticipated finished floor elevation of about 984.5 feet (i.e., matching that of the existing structure). Accordingly, fills of about 1 to 2 feet will be required throughout the building addition footprint to achieve final design subgrade levels. A mat foundation will be utilized to support the building addition. The mat foundation will consist of a 42- inch thick reinforced concrete slab. Details about the mat foundation were not available, but we expect an upper floor slab with granular material above the top of the mat to allow for utilities (i.e., electrical conduit, small drains/water lines, etc.) between the mat foundation and upper floor slab. Structural wall loads on the mat foundation will vary from about 10 kips-per-lineal-foot (klf) on the eastern and western walls to about 22 klf along the northern and southern walls.
