Description

The Town of Amherst is inviting sealed bids for the Pomeroy Village Roundabout and associated work. Contractors must be pre-qualified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The Town of Amherst reserves the right to reject any and all bids in whole or in part, and to waive informalities, when at its sole discretion is deemed to be in the best interests of the Town and to the extent permitted by law. The construction work proposed with this project consists of the reclaiming, reconstruction, and repaving at the West Street and Pomeroy Lane intersection in Amherst, Ma. The work includes realigning the four approach roads, removing the existing traffic signals and constructing a new roundabout and sidewalk at the intersection. The reconstruction includes approximately 1,400 LF of roadway with 1,840 LF of HMA berm and 1,560 LF of granite curb. Raised splitter islands with beveled granite curb and colored, stamped concrete islands are proposed at the four approach roads to the roundabout. Approximately 215 LF of mountable granite curb is required for the truck apron in the center of the roundabout. The truck apron and portions of the approach islands will be inlaid thermoplastic pattern (this work will be completed under a separate contract). Also included with this project is the reconstruction of 5-8' wide HMA sidewalks along West Street, Pomeroy Lane and West Pomeroy Lane. Approximately ten (10) new concrete ADA curb ramps and crosswalks will be required as well as two (2) concrete bus shelter pads. The project will also involve tree protection for one (1) existing tree. Security deposits will be required in the form of a Bid Bond, certified check, or cashier's check, from a responsible bank, trust company, or insurance institution, in the amount of five percent (5%) of the total bid price, payable to the Town of Amherst. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a payment bond in the amount of fifty percent (50%) of the contract award, not later than ten (10) working days after the award notification. Bonds will be for one (1) year and shall be renewed annually at the Contractor's expense This contract shall be fully performed by the Contractor on or before November 1, 2023
