Restoration of Former Hunt Town South Coal Mine Abandoned Mine Land Phase II

The project consists of the clearing of upland areas, grading of steep and dangerous embankments along the pit, widening the ephemeral channel exiting the pit, and grading areas to the east of the pit (Enclosure 2 and 3). Several small ephemeral channels (man-made features associated with the pit construction) will be graded and filled, in addition to man-made ponds constructed in uplands (Enclosure 4). These features are unlikely regulated under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. The pit itself will be re-sloped (for safety), however, the surface acreage of the pit will increase as result of grading and re-sloping. Specific details regarding acreage and linear feet of impact to channels and open-water features (pit and ponds) can be found in Enclosure 4.
