Bearpaw Timber Sale

Estimated volume of 71 CCF of Red Maple, Poplar sawtimber, 47 CCF of White Oak sawtimber, 116 CCF of Shortleaf Pine sawtimber, 554 CCF of Eastern White Pine sawtimber, 170 CCF of Hardwood pulpwood, and 80 CCF of Pine pulpwood marked or otherwise designated for cutting. In addition, there is within the sale area an estimated volume of 53 CCF of Birch, Hickory, Scarlet Oak sawtimber that the bidder agrees to remove at a fixed rate. This sale is located on the Nantahala NF, Tusquitee RD, approximately 25 miles northwest of Murphy, NC in Cherokee County. This sale area includes about 197 acres, of which an estimated 50 acres are marked and/or designated for cutting. The method of harvest includes approximately 16 acres of shelterwood cutting, 17 acres of thinning, and 17 acres of clearcutting all by ground based systems. All trees that meet utilization standards listed in AT2 within Individual Tree Marked Payment Units (#10) (CTM as shown on Sale Area Map) that are designated for cutting have been marked by paint spots below sump height and at about eye level. Sawtimber trees having two spots on the stump and small roundwood trees have one spot. Individual trees shall be cut so as to leave paint visible on the stump. Unit boundaries are marked in orange paint. All trees that meet utilization standards listed in AT2 within Leave-Tree Marked Payment Units (# 9 and 11) (LTM as shown on Sale Area Map) are designated for cutting except (a) those trees marked with paint at about eye level and below stump height, (b) dead trees that do not meet utilization standards, and (c) reserve trees which are to be left uncut.
