Description

The purpose of this project is to replace the roof, repair the stone walls, and replace the wood windows of the historic Second Bank of the United States. The scope includes replacement of the copper roof assembly and repair of associated framing/sheathing; repair, repointing and rehabilitation of the stone walls; and replacement of wood window sashes and trim, and repair of frames/ trim to remain. All work shall follow the Secretary of Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The contractor should be familiar with historic preservation treatment procedures, as well as, demolition and hazardous material abatement. The project includes several bid options within each area of the building envelope: roof, walls and windows. The roof includes a full replacement of the copper standing-seam roof, with work on roof elements, structural reinforcements, new flashings and anchors, new lightning protection and new heat tracing system. The exterior marble wall treatments includes raking and repointing of mortar joins, remove copper stains/iron stains/biological growth, provide marble dutchman repairs, grout cracks and fill with mortar, remove abandoned anchors and patch holes, provide pin repairs, remove spall and tool stone to shed water, provide pre-treatment, cleaning and consolidated treatment, etc. The existing windows will be replaced, and new windows will be installed, specific window elements will be salvaged, repaired and reinstalled, existing frames will be retained and repaired. Basement doors will be replaced. There are hazardous materials abatement/remediation/encapsulation work involving the windows. There will also professional art-handling crating/packing and moving of the collections for this project. The project will be constructed under a single prime contract.
