Formosa Plastics Sunshine Project

The project scope includes the phased new construction of a petrochemical plant on 2,400 acres. Phase one consists of an ethylene plant, associated polymer plants, an ethylene glycol plant, a propylene plant and associated polymer plant and ancillary support facilities for product loading and utilities, including electricity and wastewater treatment. Phase two includes an ethylene plant, associated polymer plants and ethylene glycol plant. Scope details have not been released. As of April 5, 2023, this project is currently on hold due to active litigation against the project as well as additional clearance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Army Corps of Engineers conditionally approved a permit in September 2019. Information regarding the architect, general contractor and method of selection has not been disclosed. No permits have been applied for or approved for through St. James Parish since April 2020.
