Design Build Black Hill RP SEED Classroom

The project is located in the old Maintenance Yard of Black Hill Regional Park on Little Seneca Lake. The project goal is to build a new SEED Classroom as an extension of the Black Hill Nature Center education program. SEED stands for Sustainable Education Every Day. A SEED Classroom is an environmentally responsible structure that serves as a unique educational tool. The structure and all the systems in the classroom are aimed to teach students how the building functions. The design allows the building to become a living laboratory for its students and encourages creative education through the building’s living and technical components. This new classroom will provide an example of how people can learn in a comfortable and beautiful space that is healthy for its inhabitants and the environment. The SEED Classroom will create space for a park-based nature preschool program, as well as opportunities for more school field trips and private and public events. In addition to the building, the project includes an outdoor deck with an accessible ramp as an expansion of the classroom space. It also includes minimal upgrades to the existing site condition to accommodate parking spaces. There are identified prehistoric resources to the north of the entrance driveway. This area should be fenced and remain undisturbed during construction.
