The Target store in the town of Manlius is about to undergo a major renovation, Manlius town officials confirmed. Shipping containers have been placed in the parking lot of the retailer as work on the store in Towne Center at Fayetteville store is scheduled to begin any day now. The store is among about 150 Target stores earmarked for remodeling by the Minneapolis-based chain. Plans call for: The Starbucks, now located behind the cash registers, will be moved into the area where customer service is now located, said Katelyn Kriesel, Manlius town councilor. Customer service will move into the area now occupied by Starbucks, and will have an updated look. Target also is converting 20 parking spaces near the front of the store into designated drive-up merchandise pickup areas, Kriesel said. There will be new changing rooms, an updated grocery section and a full interior remodel, with new signage and fixtures. The restrooms also will be redone, officials said. Work is scheduled to start any day, said Cay Huggins of Groom Construction, the company working on the project. Huggins said the first stores in New York to undergo renovations are this location, a store in Webster and another one downstate. The Target in Fayetteville underwent a renovation in 2012. It opened in 2002. Starbucks opened in the store in 2017. Target currently operates about 1,920 stores. It is the eighth largest retailer in the U.S. and is ranked number 37 on the 2020 Fortune 500 list of the U.S. corporations by total revenue.
