Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant - 2021 Improvements

The project includes improvements to a municipal activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that treats an average flow of approximately 4.5 MGD and current peak flows during wet weather near 15 MGD. Following completion of the Project, the WWTP will be able to handle approximately 25 MGD during wet weather conditions by utilizing the newly constructed parallel treatment path through the WWTP. Principal components of the project include, but are not limited to, construction of: a new headworks structure including flow splitting capabilities, influent screening, grit removal, and primary treatment; an influent chemical feed structure including chemical tanks and a chemical feed system; a chlorination/de-chlorination contact basin/chamber; a flow-directing vault; a large flow metering vault; a sulfur dioxide building with chemical feed equipment; modifications to an existing U.V. disinfection structure; modifications to existing effluent pump station including installation of an owner-provided vertical turbine effluent pump; modifications to an existing outfall surge box that is semi-remote from the WWTP proper and near river; wiring and coordination associated with SCADA System; miscellaneous equipment; yard and outfall piping (including larger sizes such as 24", 30", and 36" D.I.); paving; and miscellaneous appurtenances. Work will include, but is not limited to, earthwork, protection of existing structures, a significant amount of reinforced concrete work, electrical, piping, mechanical components, and start-up and testing services.
