Description | The Fire Department currently provides service from two stations strategically located within the city limits. Due to increased development, fire suppression services will be challenged to meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines for response times which could negatively impact the City's Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating without adding another fully staffed facility. The funding in the capital budget allows for the accomplishment of all the phases necessary to complete and occupy the proposed fire station per the findings from the Manitou Study of 2018. As of June 5, 2023, project is listed in the FY2024 CIP. Architectural and Engineering services as well as site work are now scheduled for FY 2024. Construction is scheduled for FY 2026. These figures include construction, furniture, fixtures and equipment to make the building fully functional. With the addition of Fire Station #3 coming online in FY 2026, it will be necessary to provide a fire suppression apparatus to respond out of the new facility, as well as a new Breathing Air Compressor to be placed at the new station. This compressor allows the refilling of the small backpack style cylinders used by each firefighter. There are currently units at both Fire Stations, and this will allow to provide breathing air refills at all stations. Fiscal year 2024-2028 *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. |
