Description | Engineering and Landscape Architectural consultants who are expertly qualified in the performance of professional design services related to pedestrian walkway and shared use trail construction and renovation. The purpose of these services is to assess the existing park conditions and to perform full design services for new pedestrian walkways and shared use trails for Lexington Parks and Recreation at five (5) city parks in Lexington. New construction shall include paved surface, surface and subsurface drainage. Renovations shall address existing pedestrian walkway surface pavement failures and surface and subsurface drainage. All projects will address pedestrian connections within the park, ADA accessibility and support amenities such as site furniture, signage, landscaping, etc. Consultant will prepare three (3) bid packages to be advertised separately upon the completion of construction documents for each package. Bid Package 1: Jacobson Park located at 4001 Athens Boonesboro Rd., Lexington, KY is a destination location for walkers, runners and bikers. A new closed loop trail will offer a ¾ mile exercise path while also connecting park users to the playground, splash pad and local neighborhoods. The trail will provide additional recreational opportunities by highlighting an expansive 25 acre lawn. Existing topography will be enhanced with natural landscape features that will frame desirable view sheds while also improving existing storm water runoff challenges. The goal is to create a unique landscaped environment that becomes its own feature within the park. Masterson Station Park is located at 3051 Leestown Rd., Lexington, KY. Masterson Station Park is a destination location for walkers, runners and bikers. The addition of this shared use trail will enhance the user experience by creating an extension of the existing trail to the playground area. This connection will provide residents from multiple neighborhoods access to the public playground and adjoining shelters. A portion of the trail enters the floodway and care should be taken in the design to minimize environmental impacts. Consultant will be responsible for preparing all required permits for work within the floodway. Bid Package 2: Gainsway Park is located at 3495 Campus Way in Lexington, KY. Gainsway Park is frequently used by students walking to schools on adjoining properties. The existing sidewalk has multiple sections where water crosses, creating an undesirable user experience. The re-design of the walk should strongly evaluate drainage patterns and propose solutions to address the increased surface drainage that has resulted from recent developments on adjoining parcels. The goal is to improve safety and comfort by successfully correcting problematic drainage issues along the sidewalk. 2 Wildwood Park located at 3434 Greenlawn Dr. in Lexington, KY. Wildwood Park is a small neighborhood park adjacent to Lansdowne Elementary School. Many students use the park for walking to school, however, the existing topography creates a pooling of water over the trail, often making it impassable. The goal is to provide a practical solution to eliminate pooling over the walk, providing reliable access for park guests. A portion of the trail enters the floodway and care should be taken in the design to minimize environmental impacts. Consultant will be responsible for preparing all required permits for work within the floodway. Bid Package 3: Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is located at 5886 Jacks Creek Pike in Lexington, KY. Raven Run is a destination location for nature lovers and hikers but due to topographical challenges, has limited ADA accessible trails. The addition of this trail should enhance the user experience by expanding accessible areas. The design of the trail should incorporate a holistic approach to serve visitors with all abilities and ages. The goal is to provide a collection of adaptive, interpretive stations focused on comfort, education and play. Individual stations should provide opportunities for multi-sensory and multi-generational learning. The goal is to design an experience that allows every guest to access and interpret the natural environment in a meaningful way. Per Addendum 1, following location added: Whitney Young Park is located at 1033 St. Martins Ave., Lexington, KY. Whitney Young Park is a neighborhood park that supports many recreational functions. The addition of a paved walking and biking loop trail will provide exercise and recreational opportunities for multiple neighborhoods while expanding connections to the playground, basketball court, recreation fields and community building. A portion of this trail will pass through an existing wooded area. Caution should be taken to preserve trees and minimize environmental impact. |
