Description

Work shall consist of performing a prime coat on aggregate base roadbed prepared by the Trustees, and paving with a 2.5-inch intermediate course followed by a 1.5-inch surface of Item 448 Asphalt-Concrete. *Final grade preparation is the responsibility of the contractor. * Prime Coat: Work shall consist of treating the surface with asphalt material and cover aggregate if required. Asphalt material shall conform to specifications set forth in Item 448, of the ODOT Construction and Materials Handbook. Application rate shall be approximately 0.3 gallons per square yard. If, after applying the prime coat, the asphalt material fails to penetrate, spread No. 9 cover aggregate in the amount required to absorb any excess asphalt material. The cost of the cover aggregate, if needed, is to be included in the unit cost of the Prime Coat. Item 448, Asphalt-Concrete Type 2: Work shall consist of constructing an intermediate course of aggregate and asphalt cement mixed in a central plant and spread and compacted on the road surface. Material shall meet specifications set forth in the ODOT Handbook, maximum size aggregate 1.5 inch, bitumen content 4.0 to 12.0 percent. Item 448, Asphalt-Concrete Type 1: Work shall consist of constructing a surface course of aggregate and asphalt-cement mixed in a central plant and spread and compacted on the road surface. Material shall meet specifications set forth in the ODOT Handbook, maximum size aggregate 0.5 inch, bitumen content 4.5 to 12.0 percent.
