Description | Firm fixed price contract. Installation of exterior fencing around the southeast bison pasture with optional section. This work shall consist of furnishing and installing a combination of woven wire and steel welded fencing including steel posts, wood posts, concrete, gates, hardware, fasteners, accessories, and incidentals. STATEMENT OF WORK Installation of new exterior fencing around the SOUTHEAST BISON PASTURE. New steel pipe fencing is to be installed approximately 2-3 feet inside the existing woven wire/barb wire fence. The existing fence must remain in-place and intact during this project to maintain the continuity of the perimeter fence around the bison pastures. This contract will be separated into a Base Contract and one additional optional award. Attached sheets 2 and 3 display the locations of the base contract and Option 1 and the Schedule of Items indicates the length of fencing required. GENERAL 1.1 This work shall consist of furnishing and installing a combination of woven wire and steel welded fencing including steel posts, wood posts, concrete, gates, hardware, fasteners, accessories, and incidentals. The following fencing types and locations are identified on the attached project map: Perimeter Fence - 6' finished height, consisting of: Posts - 2-7/8" diameter steel posts set 48" into the ground at 10' intervals and secured with concrete. NOTE: additional vertical posts spaced closer than 10' may be required to traverse drainage ditches with steep side slopes. Vertical posts shall not be installed in the center of any drainage ditches. Top Rail - 2-7/8" diameter top rail welded to posts, completely capping each post Cross Rails - (5) rails, 2-3/8"diameter each, face-mounted to the posts on the bison side of the fence, secured with a welded in-place clip. Bottom rail must be placed no more than 8" above the existing ground level. Remaining cross rails shall be spaced in accordance with the attached fencing detail. NOTE: where existing ground contours, such as drainage ditches make it impossible to maintain the maximum 8" ground spacing to the bottom rail, additional 2-3/8" rails will need to be welded in place to close off any larger openings as identified by the COR. PART 2 - PRODUCT MATERIALS A. Steel Line Posts & Top Rail - Fabricated from new 2-7/8 inch diameter raw steel pipe, (sch 40) Posts shall be 10 in length. Each post shall have a small "weep hole" drilled just above ground level. B. Steel Cross Rails - Fabricated from new 2-3/8 inch diameter raw steel pipe, (6.5 pounds per foot). Each rail shall have a small weep hole on the bottom on the bottom of the rail, with minimum spacing of one every 10 feet. Rails shall be welded or otherwise securely fastened together end to end to form a continuous rail on the bison side of the fence. Where cross rails terminate all rails must be capped. MIDEWIN BISON PASTURES May 3, 2022 Page 3 of 4 C. Steel Gate Posts - Fabricated from new 6" diameter raw steel pipe, schedule 40. Top of post must be capped. Each post shall have a small "weep hole" drilled just above ground level. D. Concrete - Approved concrete mix shall be placed around steel posts to a minimum depth of 42" corresponding with the local frost line. Top of concrete shall be 4" below ground level and backfilled with available soil. ADDITIONALLY: The depth of concrete must allow for the bottom of the steel line post to penetrate through the bottom into the soil, described in drawing D-1. E. Brace Pipes. Horizontal brace pipes shall be new 2-3/8 inch diameter raw steel, (6.5 pounds per foot) steel pipes, as described in Drawing D-1. F. Gates. All gates shall be constructed for heavy use such as bison handling applications. Gates shall be 72 inches in height, with 8 horizontal bars. Gates shall be constructed with a MINIMUM of 1.9 inches outside diameter, 16 gauge tubing throughout. The end verticals are coned to remove sharp edges. The horizontals are reinforced with vertical tubing, coped to fit the horizontals. Each gate shall include three 13" x 1" all-thread hinges on four inch collars. Each gate includes 48" of 1/4" zinc plated chain and a noslip chain latch. Gate Finish: Acceptable finish for gates shall be galvanized zinc with at least 2.0 oz/sqft or powder coat finish (final color will require approval prior to installation). All gates in the project shall have the same finish, either galvanized or powder coating. Gate Sizes. All gates shall be the same HEIGHT: 72 inches Configuration and WIDTHS of the gates shall be as described below: Single gate, 16' wide Double gate, 20' wide (two 10' gates in one opening) Double gate, 28' wide (two 14' gates in one opening) Perimeter Fencing - Both the hinge and latch posts for either a single or double gate opening shall be 6" diameter raw steel posts with welded top rail and cross rail connections to the line posts. Miscellaneous Materials. Miscellaneous materials such as, but not limited to, all miscellaneous connectors shall be reviewed and approved prior to installation. EXECUTION Prior to constructing the fence, the owner will remove any large trees. The contractor is responsible for removal of remaining small brush and vegetation required to install fencing at 6-8" above ground level. A. Posts shall be set vertical and in true alignment. The new fence shall be permanently tied to the terminals of existing fences when required by the Engineer. B. Steel posts shall be set in the bottom of a 12" diameter hole drilled 42-48" deep and filled with concrete to a height of 4" below finish grade. Available topsoil shall be used to fill the top 4" around each post to finish grade. All posts shall be set according to drawings on plans, as described in Drawings D-1 and D-2. MIDEWIN BISON PASTURES May 3, 2022 Page 4 of 4 C. Any high points which interfere with the placing of steel pipe rails shall be graded to provide the specified ground clearance, as described in Drawing D-1 and D-2. The magnitude of construction is between $100,000 and $250,000 for the base and all options. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document. |
