Description | The new proposed school will be a Schenkel and Shultz Architecture K8 prototype for grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade and is being built to relieve Westside K8. The basis of this design will be a re-use of the 3-story, concrete tilt, K-8 School Prototype. The prototype school will accommodate the programs of the district resulting in approximately 159,000 GSF of new construction. The school will be situated on a 61+/- acre parcel. There are five wetlands on the property that total 18.2 acres although the architectural design will be such that little or no wetlands are impacted. The building will be designed with a high-performance envelope detailing to achieve SDOC’s required criteria of 25 or less Energy Utilization Index (EUI) and 0.20 cfm (cubic foot per minute) per envelope square footage. The work will include the construction of a small mock-up structure (PE storage building) to facilitate high-performance testing. The project will also include an EHPA enhanced gymnasium building with seating for 500. Site Amenities shall include separate parent and bus loops with aluminum-covered canopies along with approximately 180 parking spaces. Parent queue will be able to double stack approximately 180 cars on site. Athletic amenities on-site shall include a 400-meter running track with a soccer infield and (2) full-size exterior basketball courts. The facility will be designed as Net Zero Ready so that in the future, photovoltaic arrays can be installed on the roof, and will serve as a redundant IT hub for the school district. |
