Public Safety Radio System

The City of Hartford, Connecticut, referred to as “City” has issued this specification as part of its project to establish a new public safety radio system. The City of Hartford has been using a radio system that has components that date back thirty (30) years. The City of Hartford has embarked upon this project for the purpose of updating the radio system with a modern radio system. As a separate project, The City of Hartford has been upgrading the communications sites and the interconnections between the sites. Because of the numerous items surrounding the determination of the radio system, The City of Hartford intent is to review the cost and benefits of the various systems proposed to determine the best direction for The City of Hartford. The City of Hartford is proposing a digital 800 MHz voice radio system. The intent is for the vendor to supply a complete radio system – New System. For Law Enforcement, Fire, Education, and Public Services. The goal is to allow most of the agencies to be able to reuse current 800 MHz radios. Law Enforcement and Fire will utilize previously purchase digital Project 25 (P25) trunked radios. The City of Hartford will also be retaining portions of its Existing System, which will continue to be used during the transition and in the future.
