Description

The proposed project will reconstruct approximately 0.5 miles of Chicago Avenue South and 38th Street East. Currently, the existing corridor includes sidewalk on both sides of the street, two travel lanes, bike lanes, and parking on both sides. The area along the project corridor is a mix of uses with some commercial nodes and single-family housing. This is a reconstruction project involving the entire right-of-way and will include new sidewalks, ADA pedestrian ramps, pavement, curb and gutter, utility improvements, consideration of bicycle upgrades. The project will also include signal improvements, new signage, consideration of transit advantages, and new pavement markings, as needed. This work will support the development of the Metro Transit’s D-Line arterial bus rapid transit project. This project is included in the city's FY 2022-2027 Capital Improvement Program. As of July 15, 2022, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
