Description | Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training center is seeking work to repair the multiple failed culverts along the southern portion of our perimeter road, as well as several large roadway culverts inside the post. These culverts and road way sections will be brought back to a functioning status allowing safe travel across Camp James A. Garfield and patrolling along the perimeter road. This project shall be completed in accordance with the standards and specifications provided by Camp James A. Garfield’s Department of Public Works. The purpose of this synopsis is to gain knowledge of potential sources for this project including interested Small Business sources. This notice is for planning purposes only. All interested parties should respond. USPFO-OH intends to issue a solicitation and award of a contract to “Culvert Repair on CJAGMTC”. Project Scope. Project site is located on the Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Site (CJAGJMTC), 8451 State Route 5 Ravenna, Ohio 44266. CJAGJMTC is requiring the removal and replacement of approximately a dozen culverts on the base. Each culvert is slightly different but an example of the work to be done is listed below. The culvert replacement in this section involves the removal of the existing pipe culvert and replacement with a 36’’ diameter culvert using the following criteria: • Existing culvert will be excavated and set aside for CJAG DPW. • In preparation for new culvert emplacement, re- grade the earth and gravel base under the culvert, adding material as needed, to achieve a positive slope for drainage. Minimum of 1/4" - 1/2" (2% - 4%) of fall per foot of pipe. • Emplace new culvert with length adequate to receive and discharge water from logical points on either side of the roadway depending on bank slopes. • Add Headwalls (HW-2.1 Half Height Headwalls) to the inlet & outlet sides of the culvert as well as 4-5 ton of Rip-Rap (Type-C) on the inlet & outlet side of said culvert. • Backfill a minimum of 1/2 pipe diameter or 12", whichever is greater, on top of culvert crown with ODOT #304 stone. Place stone in 2" loose lifts and compact with 12" hand tamper. After 4" of cover has been obtained, a mechanical, walk behind tamper may be used. Place ODOT approved backfill from the top of the #304 above the pipe to the sub base (12" below finished grade) of the roadway. • Add 8" of #2 limestone in 4" lifts, compacting each lift. • Add 4" of #304 limestone up to specified finished grade and compact. Vegetation clearing outside of the work area will be the minimum required to facilitate access to the work area. Vegetation clearing will comply with the Environmental Procedures regarding size, seasonal restrictions, and protection of nesting birds, bats, and other species. All areas disturbed by construction shall be reseeded and mulched and a grass cover established as required in the Environmental Procedures |
